A creative hub
in Porto’s art spot
CRU is a Creative Hub located at the heart of Porto’s art block — Bombarda Art District. We opened our doors in 2012, as a result of a daring dream and an innovative collaborative model.
In 2012 we had envisioned CRU as the perfect place to attract talented, motivated, and creative people to form a vibrant and diverse community. We also imagined that this hub would be the spot where creative people could work (cowork), exhibit (gallery) and sell (store) their creative projects and brands. Our desire was for Cru to serve both as a platform for launching independent projects, brands and authors, and as a harbor for those who feel good immersed in a creative environment.
Even though we had created one of Porto’s first collaborative spaces we never considered that CRU fitted totally or solely into the cowork category. We designed CRU to be a hub that interconnects various spheres of creative activity as well as to actively reflect on its social impact while being on a mission to raise awareness about the artistic and creative creation.
As we have always been part of the creative ecosystem of the city we are very well aware of the main needs and aspirations of those working in the various creative fields. It’s based on the latter that we developed what are our facilities today as well as our programming… and our attitude.
Our team is an example of the melting pot of competencies we strive to represent. From psychology to music, from the plastic arts to informatics, to economics and photography: we are a group of people with transdisciplinary and flexible profiles, but with a common will: to support the creative workers, bringing them value, so that they can thrive in their professional activities.
Community and Network
At CRU we have around 40 creative people who work at our space on a daily basis and we have 50 brands represented in our store. Our community has around 100 people and our network goes beyond 250 people. This network includes coworkers, designers, and entrepreneurs whose brands are represented in our store, partners, experts, and trainers who collaborate with us.
The majority are freelancers and solopreneurs from the Cultural and Creative Industries. Design, architecture, photography, illustration, stage direction, journalism, translation, marketing, software development, and video are some of the activities we can enunciate. However, our ecosystem is diverse and also includes professionals from business development, technology, and social sciences.
